Summer's here

The main sign that summer's here is that Priya's school is over. What a bittersweet moment. Next year she will be going in three days a week. I think she can probably do five days a week already (half days), but it is nice for Tish to have the days off in between. Not a whole lot planned for the summer. We have a road trip to Toronto coming up, and various visits to museums and the aquarium. June is the big month for most of the museums to have free days. The free days don't next start till September.

We're also in the process of refinancing our house. My current mortgage rate is 6.125%. With the new low rates, I can get 4.875%. That will help lower the mortgage payments to help reflect the lowered income. Also for the first time ever, I will have the option to not hold escrow with the bank. We'll see how that goes.

There's going to be some big expenses this year, though. The garage is probably in its last few months in terms of its siding. So the outside of the garage needs to be re-sided. On the inside, the paneling is also coming off. So either it needs to be repaneled or dry-walled. I've asked for a few quotes on the project, and I have yet to see what the costs would be.

Rewind three years

Well.. in terms of my pay, that is. This is the week that we start with a 10% pay cut through reduced work hours. The way it works for me is that I will have every other Friday off. Which sounds nice, but we will have to see how the reduced salary works out.

Otherwise things are going on as usual.

You gotta know when to hold 'em...
